Leisure Tan and Leisure Tan Plus (FAQ SHEET)
Q: What is Airbrush Tanning?
A: Airbrush tanning is a new method of receiving a sunless tan. An airbrush, or spray gun, is used to apply a nice even coating of a solution containing DHA. The tan develops over the next 24 hours and lasts an average of 5 - 7 days. The Leisure Tan formulas both have an instant tanner in addition to the DHA tan. DHA is a clear solution so the instant tanner is added as a color guide. It helps the person applying the solution to see what they are doing. It also lets the customer leave with a tan while the DHA tan is developing.
Q: What is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone)? Is it safe?
A: DHA is a simple sugar dirivative that has been around since the 1920's. It was recognized by the FDA as being safe for cosmetic use in the 1970's. The DHA reacts with the outer layer of skin and starts a chemical reaction call the Mallard Reaction. This is what causes the skin to darken into the resemblance of a suntan.
Q: What is the airbrush tanning process?
A: It can take anywhere from 5 - 20 minutes to apply an airbrush tan depending on the airbrush or spray gun used and also on the skill of the person doing the spraying. The solution dries in about 5 minutes. For the 8% Leisure Tan solution you need to stay dry for 8 hours. For the 10% and 12% solution it is recommended that you leave the solution on you skin for 6 hours, after which time the DHA will be fully absorbed into the skin. After this activation time you can wash off the instant bronzer. The DHA tan has already started to develop and will fully develop over a 12 hour period. Using the tan extender once a day after washing off the instant bronzer will extend the life of the tan and help it fade evenly.
Q: Does it have any odor?
A: No, the Leisure Tan solutions are fragrance free.
Q: Do I need a secondary application?
A: No, all you need is one application.
Q: How do I prepare for an airbrush tan?
A: For best results exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and ensure that you are not wearing any perfume, makeup, deodorant or moisturizer. Wear loose fitting cotton clothing as the water soluble instant bronzer may rub off on clothing.
Q: What should I do after receiving an airbrush tan?
A: To allow the DHA to fully absorb and react it is essential that you remain dry for at least 8 hours, 4 hours for Leisure Tan Plus. Avoid any activity that may cause perspiration. After 8 hours, 4 hours for Leisure Tan Plus, you can wash off the instant bronzer if required as the DHA will have absorbed into the skin. The DHA tan takes up to 12 hours to fully develop. Using the tan extender after your first shower will extend the life of the tan and help it fade evenly.
Q: What is the shelf life of the Leisure Tan solution?
A: The shelf life is about 9 months. The shelf life can vary depending on how it is stored. Keeping the solution refridgerated will help extend the shelf life. Also make sure you do not leave it exposed to the air. After opening the bottle do not leave the top off. Do not expose the solution to temperatures over 85 degrees.
